Birds and Butterflies.

Dearest Fashion Diary,

Confession, I wore this outfit way before I went to arizona last weekend.
I tend to get quite behind! But oh well,
just because I'm late doesn't make the outfit any less cute, right? :)

Anyhoo, I have had my eye on this dress from Target for a while,
but A) it was too much and B) it was immodest.
But then, I spotted it on the CLearance rack on one my of rare trips to target (Rexburg doesn't have a Target..sniffle) and the idea of adding my "modestifyer" skirt
underneath popped into my head! {skirt also worn here. }
When the price is right, suddenly all sorts of ideas present themselves ;)

  • dress: Target clearance
  • shirt worn underneath: Forever 21
  • belt: thrifted
  • skirt worn underneath: Forever 21
  • wedges: Ross
  • necklace: Romwe/ring:  Etsy shop "waterwaif"

What sorts of thing do You do to make your clothes work for you??

Love that dress! And I really love how you added the dress underneath.. I need to find something like that. I bought a couple of dresses (that I just couldn't live without) and am really needing something to add to the length. Great idea!
Thanks for sharing!

I love this outfit. And I need me one of those slip extenders. Or a cute skirt like yours. Very creative, girl! You are looking gorgeous, per usual.

Haven't seen that at any Targets around here. BUT-- you look adorable like always! :) Love ya!

Haha.. until i read the whole post i dint know that was a skirt underneath the dress(or a dress underneath the dress?) But it looks like one piece at first glance... so job well done! :)

I do that too when wearing extremely short dresses or strapless ones!
Looking very pretty and i love your smile in the second pic.

Oh I love how you made the dress more modest indeed! I'm not a fan of strapless dresses because I don't feel comfortable in them but you sure found a way around that, among other things. Great ideas here!

ooo i love the little pearl detailing on your shirt. so pretty..

hmmm.. in not exactly creative in the altering my outfits category hehe.. if it doesn't work for me i just can't buy it bc i wouldn't know how to fix it!

ooo i thoguht of something! at my old job i couldn't wear any type of shirt/dress without sleeves.. i would wear light cardigans over my dresses and belt them.. i was pretty happy with myself hehe.. meant i could use more of my wardrobe during the 9-5!

My FAVORITE thing is when modest girls don't let a cute, immodest piece of clothing go to waste- you look terrific!

The built in pearl neckline on that tee is too cute! Just like the rest of the outfit.

I love that you made this dress, which initially didn't work for you, into an integral part of an outfit that does work by adding pieces you already owned. It's brilliant, really. And the modestifier skirt is really pretty :)

In love with your dress, it is beautiful. I like the trend of wearing a shirt under a strapless dress. Although I have never done it I have wanted to try it for awhile now.

Sara Jane, we're two peas in a pod! I also don't wear too-short skirts nor strapless. I also layered a skirt with longer lacey skirt underneath here
http://stylenseason.blogspot.com/2011/09/lazy-lacy-lace.html

And I'm so used to wear a tank top under my clotes, flimsy or not, low or high necked, buttoned or unbuttoned. It's not just to avoid the oops moments, but it makes your clothes last longer, too, because the tank acts as a layer.

sarajane, you look darling! the way you dressed it up to fit you makes it more interesting, which i like. :)i will wear tanks or t-shirts or leggings under things. i've also cut awkward sleeves or pant legs off.
